Before serving in the legislature, I taught in Maine’s public schools for twelve years. I have called Lewiston home nearly twenty years and can’t imagine a better community to live in. I am a proud parent of two children who I am raising together with my husband, Matt. We spend our free time in the Lewiston Armory or Library most weekends.

Most recently, I taught high school in Lewiston where I had the privilege of getting to know so many incredible students who will be our future city and state leaders. I also learned of the challenges many students and families face in maintaining stable housing, affording food, and accessing behavioral health resources which makes learning that much harder.

My experiences as a teacher in Lewiston guide my decisions in Augusta. To break the cycle of poverty that too many Mainers face, we need more opportunities for children and adults alike to learn new skills and navigate the evolving workforce. We also need increased supply of housing to drive down costs for renters and homeowners. And we need accessible healthcare, meaning more providers and more affordable health insurance premiums.

Together we can make strides to create a fairer society and that is the work I am committed to doing every day for Lewiston up in Augusta.
